Fun at the 4H Fair

One of our absolutely favorite events each year is the county 4-H Fair. Aside from big Joe, we don’t have any livestock, but we do have dreams of having a small farm someday and there’s nothing quite like the fair to fuel those dreams.

Despite the dampness, this year’s fair was as wonderful as the rest. The monumental balloon eagle was at the entrance, there were loads of goats, horses, cows (we enjoyed watching the judging), and very, very noisy sheep. At the small animal tent there were a couple hundred 4-H projects in the forms of bunnies, ducks, chickens, roosters and lizards.

There was a petting zoo and an impressive display of enormous veggies. There were animals to ride, pretend and real. The girls threw darts at balloons and won stuffed animals (Iz popped a balloon on her first try - she was SO pleased). And of course, all sorts of fabulous artery clogging food. After lunch we were going to stuff ourselves with funnel cake and cotton candy but instead we decided to blow the rest of our money on the dragon coaster and carousel.

And of course, no fair is complete without pig races….

It was a truly delightful day.
